The Passover Seder Plate - A Beautiful Symbol of Pesach
The Jewish scripture commands that parents must pass down the story of the Israelite's exodus from Egypt and that mandate is satisfied in the Passover seder plate. Seder plates used at Passover tell the story of the Exodus in their rich symbolism.
Some of the Seder plate symbols include words or images of the charoset, which is a mixture of apples, nuts, wine and spices symbolizing the mortar that the Jews used to build with when they were slaves in Egypt; an egg, which symbolizes the spring season in which Passover is celebrated; bitter herbs which symbolize the difficult and bitter lives of the Jews in Egypt; bone or neck of poultry, which represents a Passover sacrifice in the temple; as well as a vegetable (usually parsley), which symbolizes the spring time and is also dipped into the salt water at the beginning of the Seder (salt representing the tears of the Jews).
