*Designed in New York* Beautiful and bold men's sterling silver Star of David necklace designed for the Jewish Museum jewelry collection. From the Cynthia Gale Collection, the pattern on this Star of David pendant was taken from a decorative element on a Hanukkah lamp designed at the famed Bezalel School of Arts and Crafts in Jerusalem, Israel around 1909-29.
This school was founded by artist Boris Schatz in 1906 in order to create a new Jewish style and to provide income for Jewish settlers. The lamp, whose lively design combines the sinuous lines of European Art Nouveau and the interlace arches of the Middle East, was crafted in copper alloy and then inlaid with semi-precious stone.
