Michal
Golan, an Israeli-born jewelry designer, printer and ceramist, is the creative
force behind the company that bears her name. Michal Golan, who oversees the
design of production of all of her product lines, draws from a wide range of
influences to create distinctive designs that are immediately recognizable for
their ornate, intensely colored arrangements of gemstones and crystals. The
work, notable for its meticulous attention to detail, highlights Michal Golan's
mosaic-inspired aesthetic that reflects her Israeli heritage and familiarity
with the intricacies of Middle Eastern art.
A
native of Haifa, Michal Golan moved to the United States in 1976. A graduate
of the University of Maryland with a BA in graphic art, Michal holds a master's
degree in studio art from New York University. She has exhibited her paintings
and prints in several shows in Washington, DC, and New York. Michal has also
won the Ben-Yitzhad Medal for Distinguished Children’s Book Illustration.
About the Michal Golan Jewelry Collection
Handcrafted in her New York studio by a team of dedicated craftspeople, with
production closely supervised by Michal, the work is fabricated in 24K gold
or sterling silver electroplated over brass or white metal. Inspired by elaborate
designs of Byzantine, Victorian-era and Middle-Eastern jewelry and decorative
arts, Michal's products are an array of richly hued semi-precious stones, Swarovski
crystals, and freshwater pearls. The result combines classic, timeless style
with a fresh, contemporary look. Close attention is paid to the quality and
durability of the products, and the work is made to last.
About the Michal Golan Company
Michal Golan launched her company in 1982, initially working out of her apartment
and later establishing a design studio and production facility in the Hell's
Kitchen neighborhood of New York City. In the 25 years since she opened the
shop, she has expanded from a two-person enterprise selling its merchandise
primarily at craft fairs, to a company that employs 40 full-time and part-time
staff members, including a team of skilled artisans and customer-service staff
who fill orders worldwide.
Michal Golan sells her products in the United States, Europe, Australia, Japan,
and Korea.
